Ellie and ElephantsIf you are here, chances are you have either received an ultra sound with soft markers, recently had a newborn diagnosed with the extra chromosome, or have a special loved one in your life.  Welcome!  Down Syndrome is not something to be afraid of.  When I found that my little girl had a 50/50 chance of being born with down Syndrome, I scoured the internet searching for answers:  how did she end up with this; what caused it; what will her future look like; and my biggest concern…what health problems is associated with Down Syndrome.  When she was born, I immediately knew she had the extra chromosome when I first saw her.  But it didn’t change my love for her.  Unlike many new parents who receive the diagnosis at birth, I was more prepared since I knew this was a possibility.  I was so grateful that she came out breathing, that she was healthy, and that we are able to enjoy this sweet little girl!  You will find that there is an amazing community of people who embrace each other and hold each other up when things get tough.  There are days that I don’t even see it in her and days that it is written all over her.  I think she wears the extra chromosome well!  Take a deep breath…browse through our site…and my hope for you is that you are able to process this beyond the point of fear as you move into a place of acceptance and love.
