Down Syndrome Is...

finding beauty in the unexpected

#downsyndromeis

I am so excited to share our new project with you called “Down Syndrome Is”. This project has such a special place in my heart. It’s amazing how something so beautiful can be born out of a world full of fear of the unknown. It’s not just about the families who are blessed with loved ones, but the providers, the educators, the businesses, and many more who fully understand how precious these individuals truly are.

A little over a month ago, a post was shared by a sweet mother from our local Down syndrome group. She was pleading with a couple who was contemplating an abortion after receiving the Down syndrome diagnosis. Even though many people reached out to this couple, their sweet little girl gained her wings a few days later all because of fear. Although I never met this poor couple, it hit me so deeply.

With web development being such a huge part of my life, I sat down and started Googling keywords. What greeted me in the other side of the screen broke my heart. One main keyword term that came up was “Down syndrome is…”. Suddenly a light clicked on and I knew what my mission was. Together, we’re going to flood the internet with beautiful stories of how these amazing individuals changed our lives. Just like Dr. Seuss’s “Horton Hears a Who”, we will make our voices so strong and so loud, that we will rise above all of the fear that greets these new parents on the other side of the screen. We will become the voice they see and read after receiving the Down syndrome diagnosis. Down syndrome is so many things. Down syndrome is snuggles when the world is heavy on my shoulders. Down syndrome is the light this world so desperately needs. Down syndrome is beautiful, limitless, hopeful, laughter, and courageous. Down syndrome is our life and I wouldn’t change it for the world. If you haven’t shared your story with us yet, we want to hear from you.

Down syndrome is the light this world so desperately needs. Down syndrome is beautiful, limitless, hopeful, laughter, and courageous. Down syndrome is our life and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
